Mrs. Bacon, and to me she was a very beautiful woman, and always wore the nicest clothes, and would look very refreshed and chic all day long.

At the age of 8, I was working 3 part time jobs to make my spending money because I come from a poor family. One of the jobs was sweeping out a department store, so I had a charge account for different items I would buy there. Loving the feel of feminine clothes, I would charge pairs of hose and other articles to my account, saying that they were for my mother's birthday or something to that effect. My friends just laughed and kidded each other, but to me it was sheer delight, and I have thought about that moment many times since.
